Spirometry

A small lung function test measures the respiratory volume and function of the bronchi, which are displayed as a graphic curve.

The examination should be carried out in case of
• Shortness of breath
• Persistent cough
• Release for surgery
• Early diagnosis of bronchial asthma
• Suspected chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Examining procedure:
After your nose is closed with a nose clip, you have to breathe through a disposable mouthpiece into a device electronically measuring the volume and the flow velocity of air. The physician will indicate the required breathing manoeuvre (hold your breath and breathe out as fast as possible). The measured values will be evaluated by computer and displayed graphically.
